Abstract
3D printing or additive manufacturing (AM) is an emerging technology that is capable of producing intricate parts through layer-by-layer addition of material. This chapter begins with the introduction of AM, followed by the various materials used in AM and some of the key industries adopting AM. The next section focuses on the initiatives taken by different countries to promote research, development, and industry adoption to propel AM to greater heights. The importance of quality management, quality control, and measurement science from the perspective of AM are highlighted. Furthermore, limitations and challenges faced by the current technology, such as material, software, sustainability, and reliability will be discussed. The last section covers issues, such as liability, legality, and responsibility. Examples of strict liability, intellectual property protection, and responsibility will be discussed to give readers a better understanding and insight
