Nonlinear dielectrics are being used increasingly for grading of high voltage systems as they facilitate compact designs. Many nonlinear dielectrics employed for high field grading are based on filled polymers. If the filler is not well compatibilized with the polymer, the interface between them is likely to have a much greater conductivity than either the polymer or the filler, at least in the low field region. Dielectric relaxation of this interface can cause a dispersion peak. Design of systems which incorporate nonlinear grading materials requires measurement of such material properties. Dielectric dispersion has the potential to cause errors in such measurements. An approach to assessing such errors is provided.
