Abstract
In this paper, a 2x1 antipodal slot antenna array with fermi tapering profile is demonstrated for UWB radar applications at 60.5GHz. Suppression of back lobe level by 5 dB is recorded with curved tapered end of appropriate dimension. Unlike others, the synthesized dielectric is implemented by partially tapping with holes at the tapered slot region of antenna to improve its mechanical robustness for antenna length up to 10 times of wavelength. Also, curved bends are introduced in the Wilkinson power divider of feed lines for smooth transition of RF signal. Simultaneously, sine corrugations and dielectric loading are used to attain better radiation pattern and gain of the antenna. The performance of the antenna is verified by good agreement with electromagnetic simulation results. It demonstrates average gain of more than 20dB over 53GHz to 67GHz with good gain flatness of within 0.5dB.
