Tendon scaffold is critical for tissue engineering-based tendon reconstruction. A novel, simple and effective method has been developed to fabricate bundles of unfused parallel poly (E-caprolactone) (PCL) microfibers (10 mu m) for tendon scaffold. The spinning process is initiated by heat-drawing. PCL microfibers are recommended to be spun under the conditions of 130 degrees C and 1000 rpm. Besides tendon scaffold, microfiber bundles can also be converted to a 3D fibrous scaffold.
