Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate on the micro-structure of 10 and 20.5% (wt/wt) silk fibroin (SF) foams using spectral domain-optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). Due to the scattering nature of SF, the non-cylindrical pore models of the created foams were identified and measured. The presence of the macro internal channels within Rapid Prototyping (RP)-fabricated SF tissue scaffolds was also verified using the advanced imaging tool. Despite the inability to discriminate the difference between the SF and cultured cell layers as a result of short culture period, the seeded cells were observed to migrate and proliferate consistently in different regions of the SF scaffolds.
