Abstract
Capacitative deionisation (CDI) has emerged as a promising technique for brack-ish water desalination. This study evaluates the potential of the the CDI technology and also con?gures the CDI cell structure as well as the energy source. It is found that CDI technology has the advantage of low cost setup and high energy ef?ciency. The new CDI con?guration minimizes the volume of the cell structure, which allows a signi?cant drop of salt concentration with the same amount of porous material. The new design is also able to force the direction of the ?ow path in order to increase the contacting time with the electrodes. Furthermore, the project integrated the new CDI design with a fully automated desalination system powered by solar panel. Overall, this paper demonstrates that the new cell con?guration and the green energy source could help to increase the performance of the CDI technology.
