Abstract
The urbanisation process of peri-urban areas as a result of infrastructural connectivity are often neglected. However, i believe that these areas have a huge potential to be the next frontier of growth. Hence, this thesis aims to propose a model of spatial planning for suburban towns in between stations along the KL-SG HSR corridor with the idea of a jointly-developed special development city between the two nations as a key concept. The intent is to extend bilateral collaboration beyond the means of purely economic goals, but rather, design with inclusivity in mind as a sustainable approach of urbanisation. Additionally, spaces beneath the railway or surrounding it are traditionally thought to be leftover spaces, however these spaces have the potential to provide the basis for new spatial forms that curate the neighbourhood. Rather than treating the railway as a mere means of connection between destinations, this thesis will aim to reimagine a city where the railway become an integrated part of the urban fabric.
