Abstract
Land is a scarce and important resource in urban development. As natural environments are forgone at the expense of rapid urbanization, issues such as habitat loss, habitat fragmentation and environmental degradation arise. There is thus a challenge to introduce a new solution that allows new development to coexist with nature, in ways that not only minimize the negative impacts of human activities within natural environments, but at the same time enhancing the greenery and the wildlife habitats. This thesis explores the potential of integrating a new development that provides spaces for living, working and leisure within a sensitive wetland ecology in Baiyang Wetlands. The project strives to provide an architectural solution that is sustainable in the long term by addressing both resource management and environmental protection.
