Abstract
What is a border? Contradictory to the notion of a well-defined territorial borderline, the border region often acts more like a thickened frontier zone with high mobility, filled with economic transfer and social interaction. There exists a conflicting relationship in these frontier regions as the rigidity of the border stands in contrast with the fluidity of these exchanges. In this thesis, I am interested in the possibilities of what architecture and urbanism can do in this highly activated yet transitional space.
