Abstract
This thesis aims to analyse and propose a solution to ease the traffic congestion of a selected large city through proposals which will address the problem on a micro and macro scale. The thesis will use a data driven approach to propose alternative methods of circulation around the city with practicality in mind. Initial research has shown that traffic conditions are rapidly worsening in rapidly expanding cities around the globe. Travel times are becoming longer and the psychological effects of commuting through such a dense and stressful environment has been well documented. Amongst these effects, an increase in mental breakdowns has also been directly linked. Detrimental physiological effects of commuting through such environments have also been documented such as musculoskeletal disorders and increased blood pressure amongst many others. Traffic congestion has also resulting in the spiking of pollution in these cities. The thesis will address both the wellbeing or the city’s residents and ensure a sustainable solution moving ahead. Thus, it is imperative that a blueprint for building the cities of the future exist to handle and distribute the millions and millions of people expected to flood to urban cities in the rapidly approaching future.
