Abstract
Migraine is a complex, debilitating neurological condition that affects a large portion of the world’s population. In recent years, there has been an increase in migraine instances and sufferers, resulting from increased, prolonged, and improper usage of devices with display screens. This is further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic Work-From-Home practices, in which poor posture and work environment conditions are rampant. For migraine sufferers, interaction with these devices can worsen their pain and symptoms, due to photosensitivity during a migraine attack. There is no cure for this increasingly prevalent condition. Instead, neurologists recommend keeping a record of migraines to aid in the diagnosis and treatment for each individual migraine sufferer. However, current tracking solutions require the user to key substantial amounts of information into a device with a mobile phone screen, which is not ideal due to the aforementioned photosensitivity. Furthermore, tracking compliance is low as the migraine pain and symptoms are often too debilitating for the sufferer to complete tracking. This research aims to address this gap by delivering a product which allows users to log in their migraine attacks using a purely tactile tracker. The product also contains a pain reliever, improving user experience and tracking compliance. The research does a review on various forms of tactile, haptic feedback. It evaluates the existing migraine market to extrapolate the user needs, then details how the proposed solution is designed to fulfil these user needs. It demonstrates methods to reduce screen time and improve the comfort of the user while tracking the key information required by neurologists. Finally, the research describes a Go-To-Market strategy for the tactile tracker to effectively break into the migraine market.
