Abstract
With the population aging and the increasing attention paid to disadvantaged groups in society, the universal design concept has gradually been widely used in various fields and has a positive impact on people's daily lives. And at the same time, the abundance of various materials in modern society and the increased sophistication of people's requirements for product design make product design more inclusive, which increased the importance of Universal Design Theory. Taking beauty tools as an example, most of the existing research on product design is only explored from the aspects of shape design and function expansion. Therefore, as we progress, it is necessary to redesign them based on the universal design theory. An important idea of product design is that it is "people-oriented", which should not only consider usage by normal people, but also the needs of special groups. As a special group of people with visual impairment, they often cannot see or have very poor vision, the most important sensory function of human beings, the visually impaired are facing obstacles in life all the time. Therefore, the project attempts to take the visually impaired as a starting point, based on the theory of "universal design", and then design while considering their needs. This is the problem that this thesis attempts to explore and solve. Based on the theoretical basis of universal design, this thesis takes the automatic brush cleaner as a case study, and adopts the Double Diamond design process. And through ii four stages of research, the author personally practiced Universal Design Theory and gained a more profound and systematic understanding of it. This research aims to increase awareness and bring attention to the challenges faced by the visually impaired, and at the same time has certain guiding significance for the development and research of universal design products.
