Abstract
"Current concept generation and assessment methods cannot guarantee the design of patient-adaptable healthcare products which embody the benefits of adaptable design while minimizing the impact of poor patient compliance. This paper offers support to designers in generating and assessing design concepts by proposing four metrics to optimize for patient compliance - the product's flexibility of function, afforded self-management ability, afforded self-management motivation, and afforded self-management support. Two case studies are conducted to demonstrate the use and effectiveness of the metrics."
