Abstract
Traditional block play has been around since the 1800s and has been an essential learning tool during early childhood education, especially in understanding geometrical concepts. However, there are many limitations to physical construction blocks. This study aims to identify constraints such as limited transference of knowledge learned between different play mediums and introducing a cross-platform block play game strategy using digital learning called MoBlocks. Online surveys and interviews were conducted with parents and preschool teachers. Physical product trials were completed with target audiences aged six to eight years old to validate a start-up proposal of MoBlocks, an architecture STEM toy set. Analysis of the responses demonstrated that physical block play remains relevant in the current teaching context. Still, digitalization integration is necessary for the near future to stay relevant and efficient. MoBlocks’ cross-platform gameplay proposal between physical play and virtual customization was well received with players. The results and validations indicate the advantages of merging physical gameplay and digital learning to design an efficient block play product that allows for more efficient learning of geometries among young children.
