Abstract
During the ideation phase, product designers’ decisions determine the relevant characteristics of a digital product, having a significant impact on time to market. Traditionally, this includes research of both past designs as well as industry benchmarks as part of the design exploration. Given the nature of the exploration, this aspect of the process can be very timeconsuming and tedious, which ultimately impacts productivity. The objective of this research is to provide a proposal applying Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE) that compiles valuable company’s internal and external knowledge with the purpose of expediting the research and exploration phase. Using a technology company based in Singapore as a case study, two technology driven enhancements to conventional ideation and design exploration were studied, with early feedback suggesting a high level of acceptability and perceived value.
