Abstract
Our march towards an/ a more affluent culture is beginning to create a pressing underlying problem that comes with it - a culture of waste. Food being the basic necessity for survival is a great concern analysing the stark contrast in the world. On one hand, people are wasting food, yet there are also people dying of starvation. These wastage encompasses various categories, of which food wastage calls for a greater concern. Food makes up the largest percentage (21%) of waste going into municipal landfills. Switzerland ranked top for its high food expenses over the years and is also ranked 3rd (after Denmark and US) in generating the most municipal waste calls for an opportunity to improve the current situation. The current food wastage problem in Switzerland is likely to surface in large developing countries in a matter of time. As a country that prides itself as a role model for the world, Switzerland can do some good in reducing its food wastage and set the example of reducing its wastage for other countries to learn from.
