Abstract
The digital divide in the ageing population is widening as there is more reliance on technology, especially when work from home is a norm. As more e-government services are needed during the pandemic, the seniors have been severely handicapped in using such services. One of the notable services would be Consumer Health Technology (CHT). Many seniors face trouble in picking up technology due to various reasons such as fear, unwillingness, or a steep learning curve. By altering the way information is presented, the senior will absorb information readily. This research aims to investigate the potential benefits of adaptable user interfaces towards different nodes (perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, intention of use) in the Senior Technology Acceptance & Adoption Model. To demonstrate the idea of the adaptable user interface, a phone wireframe, called Clippy, is designed and manifested with the ability to change the interface by the user. A design framework is created to guide future UI/UX designers to replicate the adaptable user interface in their work. To determine the potential benefits of an adaptable user interface towards the three nodes, a semi-structured interview was conducted in Senior Activity Centre (SAC) in Singapore. With proper safe distancing measures in place, participants were selected and interviewed. Results were analysed through a thematic analysis. The results showed that potential benefits were exhibited in the three nodes in the STAM. These results suggest that the approach taken while designing a framework for the senior has potential benefits. Therefore, more statistical findings are required to provide the statistical power for the analysis.
