Abstract
Sharing as an activity have always been essential to mankind’s progression. The concept of sharing has greater relevance now with the rise of the shared economy. It is suggested that the sharing economy has been able to re-embed social ties back into the economy. However, these platforms tend to be corporate in nature and monetary gains are still at the core of these platforms. The thesis seeks to re-examine the concepts o sharing and ownership under the shared economy to understand how we may re-embed social ties back within the economy. This will be studied from the perspective of the private space – the home. Through an understanding of this shift in consumption of goods and ownership within the realm of the home, the thesis then projects the home into 2050 to rethink how we may live in realm of the shared home and the ramifications of this change on the scale of the city.
