Abstract
Flooding is a persistent issue that is faced by many rapidly growing city, including Jakarta. Jakarta’s battle with flooding has gone way back since its transformation from a sea village to waterfront city in 17th Century. The government have been pumping billions of dollars in its canal expansion plan which will be completed by 2030. However, it is often forgotten that beyond human power there exist a natural power, an ecology system that has its control to make things good or bad. The canal expansion program often neglects the ecology that underlies within, creating a snowball problem of flooding, overcrowding, and inhabitable living condition. This thesis aims to design an integrated approach to create a resilient water network community in Jakarta that goes beyond flood mitigation effort to provide ecosystem for the people of Jakarta.
