Abstract
Landfills currently are unsustainable models where precious land is rendered unusable through the dumping of garbage. While educating people and reducing the amount of trash generated in the future is important, what do we do with the amount of trash and landfills that has already been generated? This thesis recognises the traditional way of dealing with waste in landfills far away from city centres is no longer a sustainable model. The thesis adopts the position that for a city to grow into a modern, sustainable city of the future, it must take charge of its own waste metabolism and subsume waste management into its urban fabric, instead of continuing with its parasite-like impact on nearby rural areas, extracting valuable resources and dumping unwanted waste. This thesis aims to create a new typology for landfills in the city.
