Abstract
Through the medium of architecture, the city has a role of a provocateur of change. The interaction of inhabitants with the built environment infl uences the city as how the city influences the individual. This thesis is a critique of the socioeconomic structure in Tokyo, and also an architectural discourse on the revival of the metabolist movement for a prototypical city model of Tokyo within the next century.
