Abstract
There has been a growing trend of shrinking houses in densely populated cities, like Hong Kong, Tokyo and New York. However, do the current housing options really meet the needs and demands of urban city dwelling? How can these homes become more efficient in the following aspects – space-maximising, cost-effectiveness and overall efficiency, while not compromising on other aspects, such as comfort, privacy and diversity? The project shall look at re-designing high-rise apartments and optimising the current models such that it is compact yet efficient for a variety of users. The project will address how housing options could reflect the demographic of urban cities, how unit interiors could be redesigned to make dwelling flexible yet comfortable, and how modularity or new methods of construction could further increase the efficiency of metropolitan housing.
