Abstract
This project conducted an exploratory research on the feasibility of car-sharing as a mode of transportation in Singapore. Two separate issues were first analysed: the popularity and use cases of car-sharing in the context of trends in shared mobility and other emerging transport technologies, along with the history and current situation of transportation in Singapore, supplemented with insights from its national developmental needs. The two premises were then integrated and analysed based on several qualitative indicators. Results noted considerable disagreement between the premises: the effects of the well-established public transport system, as well as policies against private car ownership and supporting environmental sustainability, are generally discouraging towards the use and proliferation of car-sharing in Singapore. Suggestions were made in the form of undertaking more trials for car-sharing, so as to provide constructive impacts to the overall adoption of shared mobility in Singapore.
