Abstract
Water is a vital natural resources for human survival and yet can be detrimental to humans at times. With absence of water, humans survival is at risk, on the other hand, with plenty of water, natural disasters are prone. Therefore, it is crucial to maintain the balance between scarcity and abundance. Stormwater mangement has been a challenging issue for different countries. Commonly, most countries devise a method to drain water out of the city as fast and efficiently as possible. Hence, grey infrastructures are used widely. Ironically, after pushing out all the water from urban area, humans find a way to bring the water back for usage, causing waste of effort and decrease in efficiency. As dry lands are becoming more vulnerable to stormwater due to rapidly changing climate, different countries have been exploring different measures, other than drains, to respond to stormwater risk. However, even though different stormwater management measures are explored, the interference from the increased activities of man-kind makes the path that the stormwater can flow, especially from an urbanized area, become extremely limited. This thesis explores on keeping the stormwater in the urbanized area and utilize it directly in the context instead of draining the stormwater out and bringing it back. As urbanized area being the main setting, the thesis will investigate on the possible landscape patterns, spatial treansformation, and ecological infrastructure to respond to stormwater.
