Abstract
Shopping malls have been an integral part of our lives, satisfying our innate consumerist mindset and providing us with respite from the heat or cold outside. They are also important as public spaces, where people gather and indulge in different activities or events. However, given the malls’ current mode of operation and shift in the demands of consumers, there is an imminent retail apocalypse. Malls are starting to fail, and old malls are especially susceptible to death in this competitive retail scene. This thesis aims to revitalise these malls through adaptive reuse, and by hybridising the mall with the workplace, a new retail and work experience would be created, giving old malls a new lease of life.
