Abstract
The penal system in Singapore aims to keep society safe through retribution (punishment), prevention and rehabilitation of offenders. These offenders include youth and adults who have committed penal offenses, drug addiction or drug antecedents. According to data from 1998- 2014, the rehabilitation strategy has proven effective in achieving this aim1. This thesis envisions how architecture, as a transitionary place of residence, can play a part in Singapore’s efforts to help offenders in rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
