Abstract
The problem of urbanisation and rise in sedentary culture has globally makes us move less. This is crucial for over one billion children which now live in cities. The urban landscape of cities move vertically, accommodating a large number of high-density buildings, making open space for moving and exploring limited and restricted. The role of public spaces today adapts to place less emphasis on space for relaxation and participation but instead acts as a space of transition between destinations. While technology advancements have made our city an interconnected and accessible one, on a daily basis, the monotony of our routines has been reduced to a short walk between our housing estates to transport nodes. This makes it increasingly difficult for people to attain enough physical activity daily. As such, this thesis seeks to provide a taxonomy of interventions as a tool to learn or regain active mobility by integrating them in their everyday lives, such that it improves public health in the community, especially for children. A field is generated based on attractor points towards destinations they are likely to visit such as bus stops, intersection points between the housing estates to the main corridor axis, amenities, town centre as well as points which slightly deviate from the pathways, creating a longer route. This creates a series of structures that are shaped by playfulness and invites people to transverse the architecture and nature through, weaving among the trees and connecting to scattered nodes across the site. This draws back from the curiosity that is innate within a child, wanting to explore and move freely.
