Abstract
as opposed to the mainstream notion of construction as seemingly the stacking of building blocks, viewing architecture as a system of weaves, or rather a system of agglomeration, provides a different perspective on design. it presents itself as an alternative method of construction in architecture with much yet to be explored. This thesis is interested in the potential of utilising agglomerative assembly systems in bamboo architecture and construction. through precedent analysis and a series of study models, a novel 3-step methodology of designing through agglomeration is put forth. The proposed design sits on a site of natural bamboo growth and projected high urbanisation in the coming decade. with the burgeoning effects of climate change today, bamboo’s sustainability can help to mitigate pollution caused by the construction industry. this design project hopes to incorporate bamboo into an urban environment, to open up possibilities and shine a new light on this stereotyped ‘poor man’s timber’.
