Abstract
Exceptional point (EP) singularities and their peculiar characteristics have garnered considerable research interest for various applications related to open quantum systems. Asymmetric light guidance mechanism is one of the crucial applications of parametrically encircled EPs, which has an immense impact on the control and manipulation of light signals. However, the study of related phase dynamics associated with modal fields remains unexplored. In this article, exclusive EP-induced phase behavior associated with the coupled eigenstates has been reported. Upon examining the parametric encirclement that encompasses non-interacting EPs of order two, a π phase shift is evident in the phase plot across both eigenstates. Here, we have also shown a drastically different phase change phenomenon in the case of multiple interacting EPs. Our findings would have direct implications for identifying the exact location of EPs and paving an impactful platform for phase-sensitive sensing.
